Chimney Sweep & Repair in Peters Township, PA

Many Peters Township homes don't have a brick chimney at all. They have a factory-built fireplace and a metal flue inside a sided chase. Those systems need different care, and we service both kinds.

Chimneys in Peters Township

Newer homes, different chimneys

Peters Township sits just over the Allegheny County line in northern Washington County. It has some older farmhouses and mid-century homes, but much of it was built from the 1970s onward, a lot of it in the 1990s and 2000s along the Route 19 corridor.

Homes from that era often have a factory-built (prefab) fireplace: a metal firebox and chimney pipe, boxed in by a wood-framed chase with siding to match the house, topped by a sheet-metal chase cover. That cover is the weak spot.

How a chase starts leaking

1. The cover rusts
Cheaper galvanized covers rust, and flat ones let water pool.
2. Water gets in
It drips down inside the chase, out of sight.
3. Damage shows
Stains on the ceiling or wall beside the fireplace, or rot in the framing.
The fix
A sloped stainless cover, ideally before the old one fails. Far cheaper than repairing a rotted chase.

Does a prefab fireplace need sweeping?
Yes, if you burn wood in it. Creosote builds up in a metal flue just like a masonry one. Factory-built systems also need regular inspection of the firebox panels, the flue sections and the chase cover, since cracked panels or a rusted cover can lead to bigger problems.
How do I know if my chase cover is rusting?
Rust streaks running down the siding on the chase are the usual giveaway. Inside, look for water stains on the ceiling or wall near the fireplace, or rust on the firebox top. We'll photograph the cover up close so you can see it for yourself.
Do you service direct-vent gas fireplaces?
Yes. Sealed gas fireplaces with a glass front still need an annual check: glass and gasket, burner and logs, pilot, and the vent termination outside, which can get blocked by nests or plants.
Can you inspect before we close on a house in Peters Township?
Yes. A Level 2 inspection includes a camera look inside the flue and a check of the chase or chimney exterior, and is what NFPA 211 calls for at a sale. See our real estate inspections.
How much does a chimney sweep cost in Peters Township?
It depends on the service, the number of flues, the type of fireplace or appliance, and how easy the chimney is to reach. You get the price upfront and in writing before any work begins, and if we find something that needs repair, the estimate is free.
