Chimney Sweep & Repair in Wexford, PA
Plenty of Wexford homeowners still burn real wood, in open fireplaces, inserts and stoves. We keep those flues clean, make sure inserts are vented the right way, and check the chimney from firebox to cap.
One ZIP code, several townships
Wexford isn't a municipality of its own. It's a mailing address that covers neighborhoods in several North Hills townships, including parts of Pine, Marshall, Franklin Park and McCandless. If your address says Wexford, we cover you.
Much of the area was built up from the 1980s through the 2000s along the Route 19 and I-79 corridor, with larger two-story homes on generous, often wooded lots. You'll also find older houses along the main roads and newer construction still going up.
Chimneys here are a real mix. Some homes have a full masonry chimney. Others have a factory-built fireplace in a chase finished with siding or stone veneer, which can look like masonry from the street. And a lot of homeowners have added a wood-burning insert or a freestanding stove to get real heat out of the fireplace.
Masonry fireplaces
Clay-lined brick chimneys. Watch the crown, the mortar near the top and the flashing where it meets the roof.
Factory-built
Metal flue in a framed chase. Needs the right parts for the model, and a sound chase cover on top.
Inserts & stoves
Efficient heat, but they burn cooler in the flue and can build creosote faster if the venting isn't right.
Inserts need a proper liner
A fireplace insert is a stove that slides into your existing fireplace. Older installations often just pushed the insert in and ran a short pipe up past the damper, leaving the rest of the masonry flue far too large for it. The exhaust cools, creosote builds quickly, and the insert can draft poorly.
Current standards call for an insert to be connected directly to the flue, and a full-length stainless steel liner sized to the insert is the usual way to do it. It's also much easier to sweep.
Good burning habits
- Burn seasoned wood. Split, dried and stored under cover. Wet wood smolders and makes more creosote.
- Don't choke the fire. Running an insert or stove damped down all night is the fastest way to build creosote.
- Sweep on schedule. If you heat with wood, have it checked every year, and more often if you burn a lot.
- Keep the cap on. It keeps rain, leaves and animals out of the flue.
