Chimney Sweep & Repair in Murrysville, PA

Bigger lots, more trees and a lot of real wood burning. Murrysville wood stoves and inserts work hard all winter, and their flues need regular cleaning to stay safe. We clean the whole system: stove, pipe, flue and cap.

Chimneys in Murrysville

Room to spread out, and wood to burn

Murrysville sits just east of Monroeville in Westmoreland County, with Route 22 running through it: larger lots, winding roads, older farmhouses, and subdivisions built over the last several decades.

With space to store firewood, many homeowners here heat with wood all winter. A stove or insert that runs every day can build creosote quickly, especially with damp wood or a fire turned down low overnight. Older farmhouse chimneys may predate modern liners, and wooded lots bring raccoons, squirrels and birds to any open flue.

A wood stove visit covers

  • Cap and mesh cleaned, so sparks stay in and animals stay out
  • Liner or flue swept top to bottom
  • Stovepipe connector cleaned and checked
  • Baffles, door gaskets and glass checked
  • Clearances to walls and floor checked
  • Photo report the same day

If you heat with wood

Know your creosote

Creosote is what's left when smoke cools in the flue. It builds in stages, and each one is harder to remove and more dangerous than the last.

Stage 1

Soot and flakes

Dry, powdery and easy to brush out. A regular sweep handles it.

Stage 2

Crunchy and tarry

Shiny, brittle flakes. Harder to remove and a sign the flue is running cool.

Stage 3

Glazed

A hard, tar-like coating that's very flammable. Needs specialized removal, and sometimes a liner afterward.

How often should a wood stove chimney be swept?
If you heat with wood, have it inspected every year and swept whenever creosote builds up. For a stove running daily all winter that's at least once a year, and some households need a mid-season check too. A common rule of thumb is to sweep once there's about an eighth of an inch of buildup.
There's chirping in my chimney in summer. What is it?
It's often chimney swifts, a migratory bird protected by federal law. Active nests can't legally be removed. We can confirm what's there, and once the birds leave for the season we'll clean the flue and fit a cap so they nest elsewhere next year.
Our farmhouse chimney has no liner. Can we use it for a wood stove?
Not until it's been inspected. Older unlined chimneys often have gaps and deteriorated mortar inside. A stainless liner sized to the stove is the usual fix and gives the exhaust a safe, smooth path out.
Do you serve Export, Delmont and nearby towns?
Often, yes. Enter your ZIP on our service areas page or call us to confirm.
How much does a chimney sweep cost in Murrysville?
It depends on the service, the number of flues, the type of fireplace or appliance, and how easy the chimney is to reach. You get the price upfront and in writing before any work begins, and if we find something that needs repair, the estimate is free.
